Hernando
Centrally located in Citrus County the city of Hernando lies between Inverness and Beverly Hills Florida. and Inverness. The Villages of Citrus Hills makes up a large portion of Hernando. The town of Hernando was named after Hernando De Soto, a Spanish explorer born in the late 1400's. He later joined Francisco Pizarro and conquered the Incas in Peru. The King of Spain appointed De Soto governor of Cuba and sent him to take possession of Florida. Hernando led a force of 600 men to a location near what is today Tampa, to search for gold and gems. Their trek took them up the west coast of Florida passing through Citrus County and what we now call Hernando. |

The town of Hernando Florida today is a quiet, residential community of rolling hills, with wide open views of the countryside as well as wooded natural neighborhoods. Terra Vista is an upscale, private, gated community and is the newest addition to Citrus Hills. Located high on the central ridge of Citrus County, the community looks out over much of the surrounding countryside. Terra Vista offers many amenities including the Skyview Golf Course, BellaVita Spa & Fitness Complex, Skyview Tennis Center, the Skyview Clubhouse restaurant and lounge, and a variety of social activities. The community of Brentwood at Citrus Hills also offers a golf course and the Pine Rdige Golf and Country Club offers an excellent golf course in Pine Ridge Estates, just minutes away. You can go boating and fishing in Hernando Lake and the nearby Tsala Apopka Lake Chain or drive to the public boat ramp in Crystal River for easy access to the Gulf of Mexico and all the fun and exciting saltwater fishing you can handle. |

From Hernando you can also get onto State Route 200 and be in the larger city of Ocala in under 30minutes. In Ocala you can enjoy the vast scenery of horse farms and equestrian estates as well as the cultural events at the Appleton Museum, Central Florida Symphony, and Central Florida Community College campus. There are many shops and fine restaurants in Ocala as well as seasonal festivals.
